Is Remote Working here to stay?

29 June 2022

Since the dawn of the Covid-19 global Pandemic the concept of remote working or work from home (WFH) has very much evolved to become part of the modern norms and conventions of the modern workplace.

Can I work from home?

This most likely depends on the type of work you do. Some industries such as hospitality and the media are subject to regular on duty working hours, however a majority of jobs can now be performed on a remote basis.

Should I ask to work from home?

This somewhat depends on where you live and the location of the office. If you live reasonably close to the office and your workplace offers hybrid flexible working solutions, then you should most likely refrain from making such a request. It all depends on your situation.

Do I have to come into the office?

In addition to figuring out if your job can be performed on a remote basis as an individual you should consider if you have the required facilities to perform your duties at your residence and also if you desire to come into office.

Some employees perform better in an office based environment where the help and support of others is always on hand and collaboration can be achieved easily.

Is the idea of ‘the office’ now dead?

Definitely not. Many industries and sectors still rely on offices in order to conduct their operations. Despite today’s advances in modern technology, depending on the scale of the organization a concentrated office environment is a big factor in aligning employees to the visona, mission and goals of the business.

According to studies approximately 16% of companies in the world are 100% remote and some 74% of workers say that having the option to work remotely would make them less likely to leave a company.

If you are curious about efficiency under WFH, 77% of remote workers say they’re more productive when working from home. The Virtual Office of the future will host board meetings using virtual reality headsets and would be complete with a lobby and even a digital receptionist.
